Curator – Re-advertised

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The Almonry Museum for The National Lottery Heritage Fund ‘Re-Imagining the Almonry’ Development Phase as the Curator.

We are looking for an experienced curator to embark on an exciting project to completely re-interpret and re-display the stories of Evesham and the Almonry. This is an exciting opportunity to review the current collections and, working with the Community Co-creation lead, develop meaningful community led research and interpretations of our diverse collection. As well as creatively contributing to a National Lottery Heritage Fund project re-development, you will establish the standards and systems for excellent collections management for the organisation supported by a Documentation Assistant. You will work with external consultants such as conservators, exhibition designers and architects as the advocate for the collection – of which the 14th century building is our star object. The current capital work is already revealing new finds such as late C16th wall paintings and archaeological evidence that influences the stories to be told.

Responsibilities include reviewing the Collection Development Policy, advising on the implementation of a Digital Asset Management System (DAMS), coordinating conservation audits and funding applications, appointing external conservators where required, and ensuring collections care standards are met throughout interpretation and exhibition design. The prioritising of collections to best support the new interpretation narratives at The Almonry Museum will be an important part of the job.  The postholder will also contribute to wider project planning, evaluation and activity development, recruit and manage volunteers, and help secure additional funding to support project delivery, while contributing to the development and delivery of a Delivery Phase application to The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

If you are organised, flexible, passionate about collections and engaging people in the stories of the past, this job offers an excellent opportunity for you to create a re-imagined museum in this much loved historic building in the heart of the beautiful Vale of Evesham, Worcestershire. This job is made possible thanks to National Lottery players.
