The Friends of the Almonry Museum

Do you have a passion for history?

Do you want to support our local museum?

Then join the Friends of the Almonry Museum!

The Almonry was built around 1390 as the home of the Almoner, a Benedictine monk from the Abbey. It was his duty to offer alms to the poor and needy of the town.

The Almonry became a museum in 1957 and is also home to the Tourist Information Centre and gift shop.

The Almonry is due to undergo a major restoration and refurbishment project over the next few years

Who are we?

The Friends are an independent group, seperate to the management of the Almonry. We are a social and friendship group who share a common interest in supporting the Almonry Museum.
