Volunteering and Work Experience

Volunteering and work experience are a great way to get involved in the work at the Almonry.  We will be organising a whole range of projects and activities a the Almonry and we will be looking for volunteers to help us out.  You could be helping us with collection work in the museum, gardening or helping out on event days.

Volunteering

All our volunteer vacancies will be advertised on this page, just click on the vacancy to see a full role description.  If you would like to apply please complete the application form and return it to us either by post or email.

Thanks to a grant from The Royal Society, over the next few months we will be developing part of our garden into an historically accurate monastic garden. To complete the project we need the help of volunteers to help with key parts of this development. Our main aim is to recreate the planting that would have been grown in our gardens over 500 years ago. This includes growing herbs, fruit and vegetables that would have been used as alms; as well as a host of plants with medicinal properties that would have been used in the remedies of the day.

The work will include, but is not limited to digging over flowerbeds, weeding, planting of new plants, replanting of old ones and general garden work to help maintain the Almonry gardens.

Firstly, we will need to clear the current beds of plants before giving the area a general tidy. Once we have our beds planned out, we will be able to lay a new flagstone path through the bedding section. This will clear space for the new varieties that we will then be able to plant.

If you’re willing and able to manage a few physical hours work a week and have a passion for history and/or gardening, then please get in touch!

If you are interested in volunteering for this role, please complete read the Role Description and then complete a Volunteer Application Form
